UPWELL PLAYING FIELD COMMITTEE
New Road, Upwell, WISBECH CAMBS PE14 9AB
Tele: 01945 773604
4 May 2021
Present: Ros Shorting (Chair); Steph Thorpe; Liz Thorpe; Nigel Carter; Pat Moat; Mark Elliott; John Spikings
Apologies: Pip Read; Christine Bidwell; Liz Ferris
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING - APPROVED.
MAR - Teen shelter. Still unfinished, but youngsters are playing around on it. FLP sent a brief regarding the Fibrefall. As the Parish Council is paying, it needs to sign off the installation plan. This has been supplied to the Council for feedback.
Garden Agreement - still awaiting council feedback
Woodland Trust - we are still waiting to hear back. No response from Highways and we can’t wait indefinitely. Proposed we pay for the hedging ourselves. Pat proposes we tell them again that we are being forced to install it anyway and we expect them to pay.
Dog signage - installed.
Play signage - looks a bit tatty, so needs action. Needs additional notices to prohibit cycle and skateboard usage in the area.
First-Aid Box - replaced and replenished.
Community Service - This has not been resumed yet. We are applying again for this year in the meantime.
TREASURER’S REPORT - Will be reported at the next meeting. UPFC has paid for food for boot fairs and first-aid kit. There has been no major expenditure.
RESTART GRANT - The Village Hall has received its payment, but nothing has been forthcoming for the Playing Field. The application went in at the same time.
ONLINE BANKING - Communication received from the Bank regarding login access. This appears to have been finally resolved.
PAVILION COMPLETION - Waterworks completed and electrical completion imminent. The PAT test will be done then. The benches and coat hooks will be installed then.
DISABLED PARKING - The bays have been painted. Further bays will be installed at UPFC expense, alongside zoning signs inside the gate.
EVENTS - Boot Fairs - there has been discussion online about a complaint from a vendor saying the boot fair isn’t busy enough. It has been suggested we move to a weekend, but this is problematic as there are competing events on a Saturday and Sunday. Item discussed but agreed there is no alternative date
Horse & Pony Show - next one is 22 May, government restrictions permitting. Online entries will be required and last year’s restrictions will remain. There has been a lot of interest online with the H&P Club again this year.
Tack sale - we have 22 pitches booked for Saturday 8th May (10am to noon). Access restrictions will be installed, as we do for the boot fairs. Liz: can Christine cook for this Saturday? Ros to check. We are expecting it to be busy.
Party In The Park & Summer Fayre - The bouncy castle is available for the Sunday. New booking forms are online. We are not expecting as big a turnout this year, but much will depend on the weather. Enquiries have started.
Bands are being contacted, including Saga Louts and Out Of Order. We will approach Bar Six.
Timings agreed are 6pm to 10pm for the Saturday night.
AOB - The footballers like a drink after the game, but this may require us to secure a licensing agreement. Footballers may have a drink on site at the field providing they are not selling it. Nigel offered to open up the bowls club as a trial to satisfy this demand.
Liz suggests staging a gymkhana on the field. This would be unique in the area. Subject to additional insurance liability, committee agreed to trial. Ros to check with the insurers and report back.
Nigel reports the bowls club will not re-open until June 21st at the earliest.
NEXT MEETING - 1st June. 7.30pm.
We are always looking for new members to join the committee or to help at our events. Please help our community by getting involved.
